We set up Pavement Pounders as a CIC in April 2010 as a vehicle for our Pride of Place Project. The aim of the project is to foster pride in our town, Folkestone by exploring the heritage on our doorstep. There are four strands to the project 1. Tours and Guided walks 2. Drawing Workshops 3. Our Journal with contributions from local and better known writers 4. Voices of Folkestone. Our oral history project These strands provide a broad base from which to involve the local community and to show that Folkestone has a rich history, past, present and future of which we can all be proud. The second resulting from seaside regeneration through the arts which is happening now. In Folkestone, the driving forces for these two movements were Lord Radnor, lord of the manor in the Victorian era and Roger DeHann of Saga, the town’s biggest employer , in our own time. This tour will look mainly at buildings created as a result of these two periods of regeneration.
