With the numbers of those who remember that dark period dwindling by the day, fewer survive to tell their story We hope you enjoyed the audio clips of living witnesses to life in WWII Dover posted on Facebook to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the silencing of the guns which shelled the town. These clips were provided by Pavement Pounders Community Interest Company a not for profit group run by volunteers.. Dover District Council has recognised our Dover WWII oral history project as a good cause worthy of support by approving us for their DoverLotto scheme. The Mitre Pub in Snargate Street was hit on that day.
Our oral history project "Keep off the Beach" is interviewing living witnesses to the shelling of Dover.
This third audio clip features Robert Hearn who lived with his parents in the Mitre pub Snargate Street which was destroyed by a shell on 26th September 1944. Happily the family survived. The pub was never rebuilt. Help us to collect and preserve these precious memories
