![]() Join us to learn about the history of Chilham including the mystery of St Augustine’s tomb. We will cross the beautiful square between church and castle, follow the castle wall along Mountain Street on the North Downs’ Way and Canterbury pilgrims’ route while touching on the traditions of pilgrimage Before disappearing into an ancient chalk holloway climbing up to Kingswood we will talk, amongst other things, about trees! Emerging from the woods into Chilham castle grounds, private but open to us thanks to the kindness of the owners, we shall at last catch sight of our end, Canterbury Cathedral. Here we shall reveal a charming modern personal tale linking castle and cathedral told to us by the Chilham estate manager. This event is being run as part of a series of events and activities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Kent Downs AONB and the 40th Anniversary of the North Downs Way.
